Winedale Retrospective

A look back at '72, '82, '92, and 2002.

Posted: June 30, 2012

Shakespeare at Winedale has been bringing Shakespeare’s words to life for college students for over four decades. Today, we celebrate our vibrant history with a brief glance back over the years.

Be part of this year's history by attending one of the 2012 summer class performances. For a full schedule of performances click here.

1972, Shakespeare at Winedale enters its third year! Using the barn’s original dirt floor as their stage, students performed scenes from seven different Shakespearean plays on the topic, "The Illusions of Play, Dream, Life."

By 1982, students were performing three plays a summer; in this year, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and Macbeth.

In 1992, the summer class takes on a diverse range of plays including: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, King Lear, and, for the first time at Winedale, Pericles.

Under the direction of James Loehlin, the 2002 class tackles the first four-show summer in the program’s history with performances of Twelfth Night, The Winter’s Tale, and Henry IV parts 1 & 2.
