Computational Social Cognition

Seminar Featuring Noah Goodman

Fri, April 26, 2013 | SEA 1.332 (Hakes Library)

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Noah Goodman from Stanford University will be giving a seminar today over:

Abstract - Social cognition -- reasoning about other people's goals, beliefs, preferences, and emotions --  is a major part of our mental lives. I will discuss probabilistic models of social cognition. I will explore several examples of the ways we use social cognition to learn from other people. For instance from observing the actions of (potential) experts and from direct instruction by a helpful teacher. Finally, I'll consider how we attribute emotions to others, and use others' emotions to understand ambiguous situations.
