Dr. James Roach, government professor emeritus, passed away in August. Roach came to the university in 1949 and influenced a generation of students through his courses on international relations and South Asian politics; many of these students kept in contact with him over the years. His impact was felt beyond his government courses - an all-around outstanding citizen of the university, Roach directed Plan II from 1965 to 1969. He received the Pro Bene Meretis award in 1993, and in 2000 an endowed presidential scholarship, the James. R. Roach Endowed Fund in American Foreign Relations, was established in his honor.
