Bissinger will discuss "Friday Night Lights and Beyond: The Critical State of Sports Today" as part of the 2011 Julius and Suzan Glickman Centennial Lecture series.
"Friday Night Lights" is a New York Times bestseller and was later adapted into a film and a hit TV series. ESPN called "Friday Night Lights" "the best book on sports over the past quarter-century."
Bissinger has published stories in some of the nation's most prestigious newspapers and magazines, including Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine and Sports Illustrated. He is also a co-producer and writer for the ABC television drama NYPD Blue. In 1987 he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting for a six-part series on the Philadelphia court system that appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer, where he worked from 1981 to 1988.
