Author Who Chronicled History of Al-Qaeda to Speak at Humanities Institute Events

The Humanities Institute presents three public events featuring Lawrence Wright, the 2010-11 Cline Visiting Professor in the Humanities, author, playwright and staff writer for The New Yorker. The event is co-sponsored by the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice and Texas Performing Arts.

Wright won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for his book "The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11." All events are free and open to the public.

Feb. 16:  Discussion of "My Trip to Al-Qaeda"
Screening and discussion of the documentary film, "My Trip to Al-Qaeda" written and performed by Lawrence Wright, and directed by Academy-Award-winner Alex Gibney. This event is part of the Humanities Institute Distinguished Visiting Lecture Series. A book signing and reception will follow.

 Feb. 17: Keynote lecture: "How Al-Qaeda Ends: The Future of Terror Ten Years After 9/11"
The conference will include a panel discussion, reception, book signing, and the National Theatre of Scotland’s performance of Black Watch. The event is co-sponsored by the UT School of Law. Go to this website to register for this free conference.

March 29: Featured Speaker, Difficult Dialogues Public Discussion Series
Wright shares his experiences as a journalist in the Middle East. His talk will be followed by a Q&A and a reception.
