The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) will host the 2011 George I. Sánchez Memorial Lectures in the Social Sciences and Education.
The George I. Sánchez Memorial Lectures in the Social Sciences and Education are presented by CMAS faculty associates who are either in their first year of service at the university or who have been recently promoted to associate or full professor.
Luis Urrieta, Jr.,associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, will discuss "Diasporic Community Knowledge and School Absenteeism: Mexican Immigrant Pueblo Parents' and Grandparents' Postcolonial Ways of Educating Their U.S.-born Children"
Fred Valdez, Jr., professor of anthropology, will discuss "Field Work & Field Life Among the Ancient Maya."
Refreshments will follow lectures.
