Andreas Dresen, one of the most critically acclaimed German filmmakers working today, will discuss his most recent film, "Stopped on Track," at an event hosted by the Department of Germanic Studies, the Program in European Studies, and the Department of Radio-Television-Film.
"Stopped on Track" is a heart-wrenching portrayal of a young family faced with the husband’s terminal cancer. It won numerous awards at film festivals in Cannes, Karlovy Vary, Ghent, Chicago, and others. In 2012 it was named Film of the Year at the Berlin Film Festival. During the conversation, Dresen will answer questions about his own work and filmmaking in Germany today.
The event is organized in conjunction with the U.S. pre-premiere of "Stopped on Track" at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on South Lamar March 23 at 7 p.m. The screening (free with UT ID) will be followed by a discussion with the director.
