Since 2006, the Department of Germanic Studies has hosted the Texas State German Contest to bring together the best high school competitors from about 60 schools throughout the state.
One thousand students of German compete in a wide array of activities from spelling and poetry readings to handicrafts, tests and musical performance. About 80 high school teachers from all over the state, dozens of parents, and about 100 volunteers from the Department of Germanic Studies assist and serve as judges in the all-day competition.
