The Mexican Center of the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies presents a talk "A Brief History of Tamales" by Austin-based food writer Claudia Alarcón.
Alarcón will examine the pre-Hispanic origins of the tamale and its continued importance in Mexican cooking and culture today. It is the first talk in the "Foodways of Mexico: Past, Present and Future" speaker series, which looks at lesser-known aspects of Mexico's rich culinary tradiitons.
