Fri, Apr 8, 2011

AUSTIN, Texas —Two foreign language instructors from The University of Texas at Austin received Texas Foreign Language Teaching Excellence Awards from the Texas Language Center for outstanding commitment, knowledge, passion and ability to challenge.

The recipients are:

Thomas R. Vessely, senior lecturer in the Department of French and Italian. Vessley has taught at the university for more than 20 years. He teaches introductory to advanced French language courses, as well as courses in French literature and drama.

Jan Uelzmann, doctoral candidate in the Department of Germanic Studies. Uelzmann specializes in 20th-century German literature and culture. He teaches courses in German languages and Germanic civilization.

Students submitted nominations late last fall based on the teacher’s commitment, knowledge, passion, and ability to challenge. Members of the Texas Language Center Advisory Committee carefully reviewed each nomination and chose one winner from each of two categories: tenured, tenure track, or lecturer and graduate assistant instructor.
