Advising Students on Careers Beyond the Academy

Presented by Dr. Katharine S. Brooks, LPC, NCC, BCC, Director, Liberal Arts Career Services

Tuesday May 21, 2013 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM | FAC 328

The job market for graduate students has been the subject of much media attention, not to mention a source of stress for students, advisors, and faculty. Advisors and faculty can play an integral role in the career development of their graduate students. This presentation will cover the issues facing graduate students in the job market and provide suggestions for advising and supporting your students who are considering careers outside the academy.

Katharine Brooks received her doctorate in Educational Psychology and her M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling from West Virginia University. She recently published You Majored in What? Mapping your Path from Chaos to Career (Plume, 2010), and designs career coaching training for career center personnel nationwide through the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE).

All College of Liberal Arts faculty and graduate student support staff are welcome. Please RSVP to Lauren Apter Bairnsfather (apter@austin.utexas.edu) by Friday, May 17.
