The process of promotion for faculty at The University of Texas at Austin begins at the departmental level, when the dossiers of faculty members are considered by departmental committees and department chairs and then submitted to the college with a recommendation. At the college level, a college-appointed committee reviews the promotion cases then makes a recommendation to the dean. The dean next recommends an action and submits all promotion cases to the president's office, where final actions about promotion and tenure are taken.
