Adam Rabinowitz, Assistant Professor in the Department of Classics was one of only twenty recipients awarded a National Endowment of Humanities (NEH) Digital Humantities Start-Up Grant for 2014. The $54,096 award will support Rabinowitz's project "Periods, Organized (PeriodO): A gazetteer of period assertions for linking and visualizing periodized data."

PeriodO is an online resource that will collect and link existing scholarly materials to more clearly define historical, art-historical, and archeological periods. By amassing and cross-referencing this data, Rabinowitz and his co-investigator Ryan Shaw, of the School of Information and Library Science at the Univeristy of North Carolina, hope to provide a tool that will help researchers across disciplines better better reconcile conflicting dates and definitions for period terms used in databases and documents.
