Fulbright U.S. Student grants finance nine months of research and study abroad. The competition is open to senior undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni who are U.S. citizens. Interested students are urged to attend this session.

Description: This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is issued to enable submission of program project grant applications that propose to conduct innovative, interactive, high impact research. Applications should address significant scientific questions that are important for the mission of NINDS, via a synergistic collaboration between outstanding scientists who might not otherwise collaborate. The program project grant is designed to support research in which the funding of several interdependent highly meritorious projects as a group offers significant scientific advantages over support of these same projects as individual research grants. The P01 funding mechanism is intended to support of a broadly based, multidisciplinary, often long-term research program which has a specific major objective or a basic theme.

Title: Youth Leadership Program with Japan and South Korea (ECA-ECAPEC-14-054, CFDA 19.415)

Description: ECA announces an open competition for the Youth Leadership Program with Japan and South Korea. Submitted proposals will provide a three- to four-week U.S.-based exchange in 2015 that explores the primary themes of civic rights and responsibilities, leadership development, and community engagement, and the sub-theme of entrepreneurship and innovation. The group of approximately 18-24 exchange participants will be English-speaking teenage girls and female educators from Japan and South Korea; they will be joined by American students for some of the U.S.-based activities. The program will conclude with follow-on activities in the participants' home communities in which they apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the exchange experience. Applicant organizations must have their own overseas partner organizations, branch offices, or other affiliates in each country that can directly manage the recruitment, selection, and orientation of participants as well as alumni follow-on activities.

Title: Activist Research Grant Initiative
Sponsor: University of Texas at Austin, Social Justice Institute (SJI)
Description: The Social Justice Institute (SJI) of the UT Community Engagement Center seeks applicants for the Activist Research Grant Initiative. This is a summer research grant awarded to full-time UT graduate students whose research projects serve as direct political engagement. Activist Research is here defined as a scholarly project that advances social justice in collaboration with a community-based partner (organizations, coalitions or other community-based entities). For the purpose of this grant, such collaborations may be carried out locally, nationally or internationally. Applicants from all fields of study may apply, but research addressing the interest of co-sponsoring units--the Warfield Center for African and African American Studies, Native American and Indigenous Studies, Teresa Lozano Long Institute for Latin America, the Center for Mexican American Studies and the Center for Gender and Women’s Studies--will be given priority. Awards will be made by July 15, 2014.

Description: The Centers for Advanced Studies (CAS) project was designed by USAID and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) to support Pakistan’s economic development by strengthening the capacity of Pakistani universities to respond to changing public and private sector needs for applied research and skilled graduates in the sectors of food security/agriculture, water and energy. Each cooperative agreement is anticipated to be limited to $9-10 million each for the food security/agriculture and water CAS partnerships and $16-18 million for the energy partnership. Each CAS will form public-private partnerships and interest-specific networks that will bringing together the best minds in academia, government and the business community to seek applied research solutions that strengthen the effectiveness of policy making and drive innovation, competitiveness and economic growth in these key sectors.

Description: ECA's Teacher Exchange Program advances the State Department goals of education diplomacy and outreach to youth by improving education around the world. The program enhances the teaching and technology skills of primary and secondary teachers from the United States and critical partner countries worldwide and prepares students for living in a globalized world. Participating international teachers, often women from rural and urban under-served areas, take home and integrate new and innovative methods and share authentic information about the U.S. with their students, colleagues, and communities. The program provides opportunities for U.S. teachers to teach, observe best practices overseas, pursue individualized research and develop courses. The Teacher Exchange Program offers a significant multiplier effect as U.S. and international teachers return home to share knowledge and skills with thousands of students over the course of their careers. Title: Longhorn Innovation Fund for Technology (LIFT)

Description: LIFT is intended as one-time seed money for innovative academic technology projects that leverage information technology in order to improve quality of instruction, create a differentiator for attracting higher caliber students to the University, or result in a competitive advantage to the University in attracting sponsored research. While LIFT may be awarded to research projects, the research must be applied with near-term practical use and benefit at the University. Preference will be given to projects with broad impact across the University. The pilot project funded by LIFT can target a specific audience, but if it does, there should be a plan for increasing audience size and broadening impact to the University. LIFT is not a substitute for normal infrastructure funding. Facility or infrastructure upgrades will not be funded through this program.

Title: Audience Engagement Grants
Sponsor: Open Society Foundations, Documentary Photography Project
Description: The foundations' Audience Engagement program supports projects that address a pressing social justice or human rights problems and provide concrete ways for photographers, organizations, and their target audiences to create positive social impact. Projects that inspire audiences visually, create meaningful interactions with an existing body of photographic work, and use photography as the basis for programming that moves people beyond the act of looking and directly involves them in activities or processes that lead to social change are encouraged. Beginning this year, the program offers two tracks of support for individuals at different phases of their audience engagement projects: 1) Project Development: Grantees will receive funding to attend an Open Society-organized retreat in December 2014. 2) Project Implementation: Grantees will receive grants of up to $30,000 to execute (or continue executing) their projects as well as attend the December retreat.

Title: Women of Worth Awards

Description: L'Oreal Paris Women of Worth awards, an annual program that honors women who are making a beautiful difference in the world through voluntarism. Since 2006, the program, in partnership with Points of Light, has recognized eighty inspiring women who have selflessly devoted themselves to causes at the local and national level and have motivated others to do likewise. Past honorees have been involved in a range of important causes, from advocating for victims of childhood abuse and mentoring homeless youth, to helping break the cycle of poverty and empowering teens with disabilities. Nominees must be at least 18 years old and legal residents of the United States. Ten women will be awarded $10,000 and one woman will be named the national honoree and awarded an additional $25,000 to further her charitable efforts.

Title: Exploratory Research Grants

Description: These grants support one-week visits by scholars who believe that their project will benefit from Hagley research collections, but need the opportunity to explore them on-site to determine if a Henry Belin du Pont research grant application is warranted. Priority will be given to junior scholars with innovative projects that seek to expand on existing scholarship. Proposals must demonstrate which Hagley collections might be pertinent to the project. The Hagley Museum and Library collects, preserves, and interprets the unfolding history of American enterprise. Hagley’s collections document the interaction between business and the cultural, social, and political dimensions of our society from the late 18th century to the present.

Title: Core "Center of Excellence" Grant Program (P30) (PAR-14-186)
Sponsor: National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)
Description: NIDA Core Center of Excellence Grants (P30) are intended to bring together investigators currently funded by NIH or other federal or non-federal sources, to enhance the effectiveness of existing research and also to extend the focus of research to drug abuse and addiction. It is expected that a Center will transform knowledge in the sciences it is studying. Incremental work should not be the focus of Center activities; rather, new and creative directions are encouraged. A P30 should integrate and promote research in existing funded projects, to achieve new and creative directions. It is expected that individual core activities reflect a relationship to the integrating theme of the Center and the Center is expected to support the education, training, and mentoring of new investigators, and share findings, data and their resources.

Title: Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Description: The 2015-2016 Fulbright U.S. Student competition will open on May 1, 2014. The Fulbright U.S. Student program is open to graduate students at all levels, undergraduates who will have completed their degree by the beginning of the grant period (for most countries, Sept. 1, 2014) and non-students who hold a bachelor's degree. The program is restricted to U.S. citizens. The grants are for study and research abroad, and are available for most countries. Grants are awarded for all disciplines, including the sciences, social sciences, humanities, engineering, and the performing and creative arts. A number of countries also offer grants for those who wish to serve as English teaching assistants. NOTE: U.S. Student Fulbright Grants should not be confused with the discontinued Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Grant.
