Congratulations to the Religious Studies Undergraduates who were recently awarded scholarships based on academic merit!
Erica Dietzel received an Unrestricted Endowed Presidential Scholarship (UEPS). Started in 1973, the UEPS is one of the most notable scholarships for UT students. In addition to being a Religious Studies major, Erica is a Bridging Disciplines Student in the Social Entrepreneurship and Non-Profits program and a Rapoport Service Learning Scholar. She is active in many on campus groups, including the Orange Jackets, Lutheran Campus Ministry, and the University Interfaith Council. After completing her BA, she plans to pursue higher degrees in Social Work and public policy.
In addition to the UEPS, which is a scholarship open to majors across the university, four departmental scholarships were awarded to exemplary Religious Studies students. These scholarships are available through generous donations to the department, and are awarded to Religious Studies students based upon academic merit.
Katherine Sanchez is being awarded the William B. and Sara G. Hilgers scholarship. Katherine is majoring in both Religious Studies and Middle Eastern Studies with a minor in Arabic. She is president of the Religious Studies Student Committee (RSSC) and plans to go to law school after finishing her BA.
The Margaret Berry Scholarship is being awarded to Callie Crispin, a double major in Religious Studies and Psychology and treasurer of the RSSC.
Two Joe and Cherry Gray Scholarships were awarded. One Gray scholarship went to Religious Studies/Philosophy double major and RSSC treasurer, Catherine Tran. The second went to Richard Reed McNitzky.
The Department of Religious Studies is honored to have majors as dedicated and accomplished as these five students.
A note to current Religious Studies majors, be sure to apply for the departmental scholarships next year! The application will be due in April, and you can always check our website here to learn more about them.
