The Center and the Major

Thanks to a generous grant from the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, the Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies has since 2007 brought a rich and wide-ranging presence to the study and appreciation, at the University of Texas, of Jewish culture, history, and society. The Center has created a broad curriculum and major and reaches audiences beyond the classroom with lectures, conferences, exhibits, music, dance, and films displaying the full range of the Jewish experience. It has quickly emerged as an internationally recognized hub of innovative ideas and scholarship for Jewish studies researchers, the source of engaging courses for hundreds of students each year, and the sponosr of events that attract a wide audience from the campus and greater Austin community. The Center has particular strengths in the study of Israel, Eastern Europe and the Holocaust, and a pioneering initiative in the study of Jews of the Americas.
