7:00 PM

This is the third film in the Austin Film Society's series "Riding the Wave: Romania's Newest and Finest," which will present films from the Romanian New Wave of the late 2000s that were made by the first generation of Romanian directors after the collapse of the Ceauşescu regime. Now equipped with the tools, education and political freedom to express themselves, these directors made up for decades of artistic repression by creating brilliant cinema. Check out the flyer for this film series here!

In "Beyond the Hills," at an Orthodox convent in rural Romania, two young women's paths and fate cross as they determine who and what forces will determine the shape of their lives. This film was the winner of the Best Actress and Best Screenplay awards at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. To find more information about this film and purchase tickets, look here.

Student tickets may be purchased (with valid student ID) for $8, AFS Love members may purchase tickets for $5, and tickets are free for AFS Premiere members; all other tickets are $10 apiece. All films in this series will be shown at the Marchesa Theater, located at 6226 Middle Fiskville Road, Austin, TX 78752.
