A Panel Discussion on Gender Violence in India: Let's Talk India

Thu, November 14, 2013 | WCH 4.118

5:30 PM

According to India's National Crime Record Bureau, the number of reported rapes increased from 16,000 in the year 2001 to 24,000 in the year 2012. This means that a rape happens almost every 20 minutes. How did we land in this situation? Why is the legal infrastructure failing? What are we doing to address the problem?

Join us for a discussion on gender violence in India in recent times, with Dr. Sharmila Rudrappa (Department of Sociology) and Dr. Indrani Chatterjee (Department of History) at the University of Texas at Austin. Bring your thoughts and opinions to the table and let's build on our collective wisdom.
