Indian Music Concert: "Traditions Touching"

Traditions Touching: An Evening of Hindustani, Jazz, and New World Music celebrates the approaching summer solstice, the time when night and day are equal in length and distinct forms combine to create something new. Through an evening-long pairing of the distinct traditions Hindustani (North Indian) and jazz music, well-known Austin and Houston-based musicians explore and celebrate the New World Music that grows out of such pairings.

Sat, June 10, 2006 | Dougherty Arts Center, 1110 Barton Springs Road, Austin

The concert showcases a performance of the ¢€œGlobal Legacy Concerto¢€ by an collaborative ensemble directed by sitarist Amie Maciszewski, with Houston- based tabla player Shantilal Shah and Latin jazz percussionist Fernando Ledesma; and Austin-based jazz guitarist Glenn Rexach, jazz keyboard player Fernando Miramon, and Indian vocalist-songwriter Nagavalli. In addition, Maciszewski and Shah will pair in a traditional sitar and tabla performance, and young songstress Nagavalli will present a sampler of traditional as well as original works, accompanied by the instrumentalists.
