Amy Hyne, Ph.D. Candidate, Department of Asian Studies wins 2014 Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship Award!

SAI is excited to announce Amy Hyne, Ph.D Candidate in the Department of Asian Studies as the recipient of the prestigious Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship Award!  Her dissertation, Pathologizing Deviance in India: Constructions of "Madness" in Classical Sanskrit Texts and Contemporary Debates, explores the social, religious, and political motivations behind ascriptions of "madness" in classical Sanskrit texts and contemporary discussions in India.
The Newcombe Fellowships are awarded to scholars in the humanities and social sciences who are completing dissertations related to questions of religious and ethical values. Each 2014 Newcombe Fellow will receive a 12-month award of $25,000.
