Angel Delgado Gomez, a native of Pamplona, Spain, obtained his doctorate with highest honors from the University of Texas at Austin, Department of Spanish and Portuguese, in 1982.  He also holds a degree in Roman Philology from the University of Navarra.  He taught Spanish literature at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana for a decade before returning to Spain to pursue his academic and commercial interests.  He has important articles on the novela picaresca, la Comedia, and Renaissance humanism and has specialized in the work of the cronistas de Indias.

His most recent publication is a critical, annotated edition of Bernal Díaz del Castillo's Verdadera historia de la conquista de la Nueva España (Homo Legens, Madrid, 2009, 949 pp.)  The project originated with Dr. Luis A. Arocena, a distinguished professor of U.T.'s Department of Spanish and Portuguese for many years, and the lecture is offered, in part, as a tribute to the contributions of Dr. Arocena to this department and its students.
