Estrangement, Foreignness, Migration—Poetics for the 21st Century

Sun, April 1, 2012

"Extrañeza, Extranjería, Migración" will be offered as a graduate seminar (SPN 385M) that will convene Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 5-7 pm between September 25 and November 9.  It will be coordinated with our annual poetry event, "Poéticas para el Siglo XXI / Poetics for the 21st Century," to take place October 27.  The centralizing theme will be the ways in which poetic language confronts and incorporates a variety of differences provoked by cultural contact.

The invited poets--Concha García, Ana Rossetti, Jenaro Talens, Bahia Awah, Limam Boicha, Clara Janés, and Abderramán El Fathi—will spend 1-3 weeks in Austin between October 8 and November 9, in the context of the graduate seminar, leading class discussions during their residence around topics of poetic production and reception in Spain today.
The one-day symposium on October 27th will also be open to the public.
