Notes on Declaring a Major

Logo: Libby

Want to transfer to the College of Liberal Arts?

If you are enrolled in another college, and your intent is to earn a Liberal Arts degree ONLY, you must come to the Liberal Arts Student Division office to complete a college change form.

You cannot declare your major and minor online.

Declaring a Simultaneous Major?

If you are enrolled in another college and are planning also to pursue a major in Liberal Arts, then you should first make an appointment with an academic advisor in the department that you want to add as your simultaneous major. After you have departmental approval you can complete the paperwork to declare your Liberal Arts major and minor in person at GEB 2.200. Your Liberal Arts major will be added as a simultaneous major.

Simultaneous major requests will become effective the following long semester, but only if you are enrolled. Questions regarding tuition changes should be referred to the Cashier's Office at (512) 475-7777.

Want to delete your major?

If you want to delete a major, go to the appropriate office of that college to do so.

Unsure about what to major in?

Take time in choosing a major. Taking electives in areas of interest is a good way to explore your options. Another way to learn more about a particular major is by talking with an academic advisor in the department. In addition, academic advisors in the Student Division (GEB 2.200) can help guide you when choosing a major. Once you have officially declared a major, a designated staff or faculty member in your department will become your primary advisor.
