Orientation and Beyond

ORIENTATION explore UT photo

All new Longhorns are invited and encouraged to attend a New Student Orientation. Family members are invited to attend "Family Orientation" which is held the first day of each New Student Orientation session.  More information and registration can be found through the Office of the Dean of Students Web site.

There are also several opportunities to tour the beautiful campus of The University of Texas at Austin.

EXPECTATIONS FOR FAMILIES AND THEIR LONGHORNS

Your Longhorns are expected to assume their responsibilities as a college student beginning with Orientation.  To that end, we ask for your support in encouraging your Longhorns to do the following independently:

  • Seek out help, including advising, when needed.
  • Be aware of college and university policies and deadlines.
  • Actively participate in developing their academic, professional, and personal goals.
  • Research their academic program and know the degree requirements, course descriptions, and prerequisites.
  • Select and register for their courses.
  • Be responsible for their academic and personal decisions. Although they will receive guidance from advisors and families along the way, your Longhonrs are taking their first steps to adulthood.
