Liberal Arts Council (LAC) Study Abroad Scholarship

2009 -2010

The Liberal Arts Council will award scholarships to students studying abroad in the Spring of 2010. Maymester participants are not eligible. Because this scholarship is offered by the Liberal Arts Council, your study abroad program should have a significant impact on your Liberal Arts education here at the University of Texas. To qualify, you must be a full-time undergraduate student in the College of Liberal Arts, and you must have been accepted to a UT faculty-led, exchange, or affiliated program sponsored by the UT Study Abroad Office (SAO) by the time of the award release.

The Liberal Arts Council does not offer a predetermined number of scholarships for any specific amount. The number of recipients and amounts awarded are based on applications and interviews. However, the range is typically 5-10 awards of $250-$1,000.
Your application is a resource to be used by the Council in an attempt to get to know you and determine who will best represent the College of Liberal Arts while studying abroad. GPA, financial need, résumé, recommendation letters and other materials are NOT taken into consideration for this scholarship. However, a minimum GPA of 2.75 is required.

Applications should be submitted by midnight on Wednesday October 14, 2009. The Liberal Arts Council will evaluate the applications and notify a list of applicants by Monday November 9, 2009. Applicants must be available for interviews on Saturday, November 14, and Sunday, November 15. All applicants will be notified of their final application status in early April.

To see if you are eligible and to apply, visit the Global Assist webpage and click on 'Get Started.'

Scholarship recipients are expected to submit a short autobiography and a picture for the Liberal Arts Council website. They will also attend a Liberal Arts Council meeting (Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. in CAL 100) to briefly discuss their programs. Finally, each recipient will be expected to write a thank-you letter to the scholarship benefactors.

Please contact Shelby Carvalho, Liberal Arts Council Chair of Academic Affairs, if you have any questions.
