Last Day to See Jack Kerouac Scroll

Date: June 1
Location: The Harry Ransom Center
Time: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM

The last day to view the scroll manuscript of Jack Kerouac's novel "On the Road with the Beats" is June 1. The first 48 feet of this 120 foot "page" will be visible in the Harry Ransom Center gallery. This visually stunning first draft has no paragraph or chapter breaks, and the characters are all referred to by their real names. The scroll manuscript is on loan from the collection of Jim Irsay.

The exhibition traces the travels of Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs and their friends across America and the globe. Manuscripts, books, photographs, and visual art from the Ransom Center's collections tell the story of the Beat Generation and the literary and social revolution they inspired. The exhibition runs through August 3.
