Provost Honors Five Liberal Arts Professors with Teaching Awards

Winners receive $5,000 for teaching excellence

AUSTIN, Texas -May 1, 2008- The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost awarded six university faculty members the President's Associates Teaching Excellence Award for the 2007-08 academic year. Five of the six honorees are from the College of Liberal Arts.

The liberal arts faculty winners are:
- Daniel Birkholz, assistant professor of English,
- Diane Davis, associate professor of rhetoric and writing,
- Sam Gosling, associate professor of psychology,
- Daniel Hamermesh, the Edward Everett Hale Centennial Professor of Economics,
- Daron Shaw, asociate professor of government.

The award was established in 1980 to recognize excellence in undergraduate teaching at the university. Awards are based upon selections received from the deans and department chairs in the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences. The recipients each receive $5,000.
