Texas Exes Recognizes Liberal Arts Alumni
Alumni honored for significant achievements in their careers and service to the university
AUSTIN, Texas -June 11, 2008- Two College of Liberal Arts alumni earned the 2008 Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award.
Christina Joy Allen (B.A. '98 English and Spanish, J.D. '01) is the Coordinator for Grant Development and Research for La Marque Independent School District. An active member of the Gulf Coast community, the Galveston County Daily News honored Allen for her volunteer work with the Westward Street Church of Christ, the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, Mainland American Cancer Society Relay for Life and the Gamma Omega Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, a sorority that sponsors a mentoring program for girls.
Michael Appleman (B.A. '90 Plan II Honors Program, J.D. '93) is a partner at Cantey & Hanger law firm in Fort Worth. He has served on the board for organizations in Fort Worth and has volunteered in numerous positions for both The University of Texas and the Texas Exes. Since his freshman year, he has been involved with the Texas Exes at Austin, serving on committees, volunteering and providing scholarships to students.
In 1980, the Texas Exes established the award to recognize young alumni who are distinguished in their fields and have demonstrated a continuing interest in the university and the alumni organization. A recipient must be under the age of 40 to receive the award.
