Interdisciplinary Conference Commemorates 1968

The Program in Comparative Literature will host the interdisciplinary conference, "1968: A Global Perspective" Oct. 7, 10-12 at the university. The conference commemorates the 40th anniversary of 1968 by examining its literature, icons, myths, images and cultural impact. All events are free and open to the public.
Conference highlights:
Keynote Lecture: 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7
Location: Jessen Auditorium
Daniel Ellsberg, known for his 1968 release of the Pentagon Papers, revealing U.S. analyses of the Vietnam War, will discuss the lessons of 1968. This event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets will be distributed starting Oct. 1 at the Intellectual Property bookstore.

Location: Texas Union Theater, 2.228
Kathleen Cleaver offers insights into her own experiences of 1968 and its protests. This event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets will be distributed starting Oct. 1 at the Intellectual Property bookstore.
Special Roundtable Event: Hear about Austin in its Youth!: 9:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 12
Location: Texas Union Theater, 2.228
Speakers include: David Moorman, poet and associate editor of Texas Monthly; David Martinez, Chicano scientific folk painter; Shannon Sedwick, co-director of Esther's Follies; and Jim Franklin, graphic artist and co-founder of the Armadillo World Headquarters.
Film Screening: 11:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 12
Location: Mezes Hall, B0.306
Special film screening of Eyes on the Prize's "The Promised Land, 1967-68," a documentary film by Jackie Shearer and Paul Stekler. Steckler will be in attendance.
