Step 3: Summer StartRegistering for Summer

Please download and print the Freshman SummerStart Class Guide or the Transfer SummerStart Class Guide. Within the guide is a list of second session summer classes with their unique numbers, meeting days and times, and classrooms. You will be registering for two of these classes in addition to the SummerStart seminar. Consult with an academic advisor before choosing classes outside these recommendations.

Prepare to Register

View Your RIS
The Registration Information Sheet (RIS) lists your registration dates and times, advising information, and any registration bars.

Your RIS should be available in late May. View your RIS prior to registration to test your UT EID and password, and to be sure you have time to clear any bars that would hinder registration.

Use the RIS if you need to change your address or telephone number. Most students will need to update their local addresses when they arrive for school.

The most common bar that students may have on their RIS is an Admissions bar.  This bar indicates that your final high school transcript has not yet been received.  It will not affect this initial registration period.

Prepare your schedule
Use the classes you chose during Step 2 to select your preferred courses. Using the Advising and Registration Worksheet you downloaded in Step 2, list the unique number and meeting time for each course section you are interested in along with alternates. Freshmen should pick one course from each list when possible. Transfer students should select courses that fulfill different requirements, when possible. Consult with an academic advisor about other possibilities.

*** You must request access to a UGS class. You should submit your Advising and Registration Worksheet as early as possible for the best selection. You will not be able to register for a UGS class without prior authorization, so plan accordingly.

Complete the registration portion of the worksheet by selecting your preferred classes and alternate classes before attempting to register.  If you have problems with your Advising and Registration Worksheet, academic advising will be available on a walk-in/phone-in basis on May 18-19, May 31, and July 8. See the departmental advising locations download below for locations and phone numbers. Be aware that many offices will be closed from noon–1 p.m. and that, depending on traffic flow on a given day, you may not be able to speak to an advisor immediately. You will need to have your completed Advising and Registration Worksheet available for advising.

You should also review your choices with your advisor during orientation.

Register for Summer Classes

You will have a maximum of 20 minutes to complete your registration, so being prepared is essential. If your registration session is terminated before you complete all transactions, re-access the registration system to continue. Transactions completed before the termination will not be lost.

You register through the Registrar's website.  Note that when you log in to register, you will be asked to confirm your e-mail address before you are allowed to proceed with registration.

Once you have registered, your registration will not be finalized until you have paid for your classes. Failure to pay your fee bill on time will result in cancellation of your registration and you will be dropped from your classes.
