Combs Discusses Revitalizing Comptroller's Office
Date: November 1
Location: Dorothy Gebauer Hall (GEB) Room 3.312
Time: 3:30 PM
The Texas Politics Project welcomes Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Susan Combs who will discuss "A New Day at the Comptroller's Office: Simpler, Smarter, Faster."
Combs, who recently was named Texas chairwoman for Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign, was elected Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts in 2006. In 1998, she became the first woman elected Agriculture Commissioner. As a state representative, she focused her efforts on private property rights and the Juvenile Justice code. She also contributed to legislation related to education and tort reform.
Comptroller Combs received her undergraduate degree from Vassar College. Her first work experiences included international advertising, Wall Street financial markets and the federal government. Combs returned to Texas and received her law degree from The University of Texas School of Law. After graduating, she served as an Assistant District Attorney in Dallas.
The event is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts Texas Politics project, an initiative created to help Texans become more informed and engaged political citizens. The lecture will be filmed for online streaming, so guests must consent to having their image captured on the video, which will be used as part of the Texas Politics Project.
