Put a Ring on It: Committing to the language textbook by adapting published materials to the advanced four-skills classroom

Wed, September 19, 2012 | Texas Union Lone Star Room 3.208

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

In the search for perfect teaching materials, language instructors are sometimes reluctant to commit to a textbook because it doesn't specifically address all of our desired course goals and objectives. Nonetheless, if instructors like the fundamental structure and topical content of a textbook, then I encourage them to "put a ring on it" by creating accompanying materials to enhance the text and reinforce your course goals. This talk will focus on identifying specific ways to support learners with supplemental audio and video materials that can be easily created by the instructor and share with students. Teachers of all language levels are encouraged to attend as the tips and tools are applicable at every level. Bring your own ideas for a lively discussion.
