GENERAL INFORMATION



Tickets for Programs

Tickets are required for many of the programs throughout the weekend for both degree candidates and their guests. All degree candidates participating in the Saturday evening Commencement are required to present a ticket when lining up for the grand procession. Tickets will be available beginning May 1 at the Frank Erwin Center and the Performing Arts Center box offices. Many College/School/Department programs require tickets for guests due to increasing participation and to ensure the safety of our guests. Degree candidates should check with their representative for details.

Academic Dress

Academic regalia for degree candidates is traditional for school, college, and department ceremonies May 19-21 and the evening Commencement on May 20. Graduating students should check with their representative for instructions. Law students may wear the traditional sunflower ceremony attire to the Saturday evening Commencement. Academic regalia is available for purchase from the University Co-op.

Services for Students and Visitors with Disabilities

Special services are available to accommodate needs for individuals with disabilities at all Commencement programs. Persons requiring these services are asked to contact the offices listed below prior to their arrival. For information on services for the University-wide ceremony on Saturday evening, please call the Office of the Dean of Students at (512) 471-6259 or by TDD at (512) 471-4641 prior to 5:00 p.m. on May 19. On Saturday, May 20 information is available by calling the University Police Department at (512) 471-4441. For information on services for ceremonies at the Frank Erwin Center, please call (512) 471-7744. For information on services for ceremonies at the Performing Arts Center and Hogg Auditorium, please call the PAC Patron Services Office at (512) 471-8207. For other venues, please consult the attached schedule and contact the coordinators listed directly.

Invitations and Announcements

Printed invitations and announcements for mailing to family and friends may be ordered from the University Co-op, 2304 Guadalupe. Degree candidates may order personal name cards to enclose in the mailings. Please allow extra time for printing.

Parking

Parking for all Commencement activities is free in designated areas throughout the weekend on a first-come, first served basis. On Friday, University parking garages at Manor Road and East Campus Drive, and at MLK and Speedway will be available in addition to campus lots marked "C Parking." On Saturday, University parking garages at 24th and San Jacinto, 25th and San Antonio, 27th and University, will be available in addition to the MLK and Speedway, and Manor Road and East Campus Drive facilities and most surface lots. State lots are available for Saturday activities. Additional parking information is available on the web at http://www.utexas.edu/business/parking/.

University Housing

Degree candidates living in University housing may request to remain through the night of Saturday, May 20. Residence halls will close on Sunday, May 21 at 9 A.M.

Commemorative Texas Style™ Commencement Items

T-shirts, a video of the University-wide Commencement ceremony, Tower fireworks photo, as well as other commemorative items will be available for purchase via the Internet.

For more information on Commencement 2000 activities, please telephone the Office of University Relations at (512) 471-7753. On Saturday, May 20, several information centers will be located around campus offering schedules, maps, listings for campus museum and gallery attractions, and details on food and beverage service, campus stores, remote telecasts for the Saturday evening Commencement, and other Commencement information.
