OVERVIEW OF COMMENCEMENT WEEKEND

117th Spring Commencement Ceremony, Saturday May 20th, 8 p.m.

All degree candidates, families, and friends are invited to the University-wide Commencement ceremony, the most important event of the academic year. An occasion rich in tradition, it is held in the heart of UT's historic campus, at the Tower. An evening of unforgettable sights and sounds will pay tribute to the Class of 2000: heraldic banners and ceremonial flags rippling in the soft spring breeze…triumphant fanfares and exquisite voices in song…marshals with ceremonial maces aloft leading a grand procession of students and faculty in regalia of every color and hue…inspiring words of distinguished speaker Bill Moyers…the dramatic lighting of the Tower at the moment degrees are conferred, all culminating with a brilliant flare of fireworks in the Texas sky. An unforgettable evening under the stars…a ceremony like no other…an experience to cherish for a lifetime.

College, School, and Department Convocations

Convocation ceremonies, hosted by the various colleges, schools, and departments, allow components of The University to celebrate the achievements of their graduates with individualized honors and traditions. The convocations provide photo opportunities for candidates' families to capture moments such as the hooding of doctoral and masters students or a Dean shaking students' hands as their names are called and they walk across the stage. Candidates are advised to contact their representative listed below to verify the ceremonies for which they are eligible. The attached schedule notes times and locations and other pertinent information for college, school, and department convocations.

Great Texas EX-IT!

In celebration of the Class of 2000, the UT Ex-Students' Association will host the Great Texas EX-IT, an open house in the Lila B. Etter Alumni Center directly west of Royal Memorial Stadium. Throughout Commencement weekend, all graduates and guests are invited to stop by and enjoy a champagne toast. As graduates prepare to leave The University, they can be assured of always remaining in contact through the Ex-Students' Association, the organization responsible for maintaining official alumni records. Membership information and Texas Ex window decals will be available.
