126th Spring Commencement

General Information for All Faculty

The following information is for faculty members attending the 126th Spring Commencement of The University of Texas at Austin on Saturday evening, May 23, at the Tower. Your participation is important to graduating students and their families, and we hope you will be able to attend. Details follow:

Academic Regalia
Regalia are worn at the evening ceremony. The deadline for renting doctoral regalia from the University Co-op is April 24. The University Co-op has established a free loan regalia program for faculty attending the Saturday evening university-wide Commencement. If you have an interest in this program, please see information on the Faculty Regalia Loan Program.

Processional Route and Seating for Faculty
Faculty have a visible and central ceremonial role in the evening Commencement. Faculty process from the Main Building, down the South Mall toward Littlefield Fountain where they form an honor line for the student procession. During the ceremony, faculty are seated on raised platforms so they can view the proceedings and be seen by the audience.

In Case of Inclement Weather
The back-up location for the evening ceremony is the Erwin Center. Any decision to relocate the ceremony from the Tower will be made late Saturday afternoon. If weather conditions are threatening, please check the UT Home Page and listen to local media for any change in plans. Close to the time of the ceremony, the Office of Public Affairs will activate a phone line (512-232-9999) you can also call for information.
