Accommodations for College, School and Department Commencement Convocations
For visitors with disabilities attending individual college, school and department convocations, please contact the college, school or department representative at least five days prior to Commencement activities.

Accommodations for the University-wide Commencement Ceremony

Accommodations for those who are deaf and hard of hearing:

A reserved seating section for deaf or hard of hearing guests requiring sign language interpreting services will be available near the southwest corner of the stage. Captioning will also be available on the two large screens adjacent to the stage, on the large screen on the South Mall and on the indoor viewing screens in Hogg Auditorium and in the University Teaching Center, Room 2.112A.

Accommodations for those with limited mobility:

A reserved seating section for those requiring wheelchair seating accommodations and for those with limited mobility will be available adjacent to the hedges near the Commencement stage. Guests can be dropped off at the Disability Services station. Guests with disabilities may also take the Disability Services Shuttle from the San Antonio Garage to the drop-off location. Staff will be available with wheelchairs to assist guests with limited mobility to the reserved seating location. Following the ceremony, staff will also assist guests in returning to the drop-off location.

Due to limited space, the reserved seating area is restricted to the person with the disability and one guest. Additional members of your party should sit in regular public seating areas.

The university is unable to provide wheelchairs for individual use. Those requiring wheelchairs for the duration of a ceremony should plan on making their own accommodations for the equipment prior to arriving on campus.

Reserved parking and disability services shuttle:

Reserved parking for persons with state-issued handicapped permits will be available in the San Antonio Garage (SAG) on San Antonio Street between 24th and 25th streets. Parking is also available in any handicapped space on campus that is not restricted due to Commencement.

A free Disability Services Shuttle will transport guests with disabilities from the San Antonio Garage to the Disability Services drop-off location at the Tower. This service will begin at 5 p.m., and continue following the event until all guests have been assisted.

If you are attending the University-wide ceremony on the evening of Saturday, May 21 and require special accommodations or have questions, please call the Office of Institutional Equity, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., at (512) 471-1849. Accommodation requests should be made at least five days prior to Commencement activities. While every effort will be made, the University may be unable to fulfill last-minute requests.
