The University of Texas at Austin celebrates the academic attainment of our graduates with a full slate of Commencement activities. Please join us for a memorable weekend that honors our graduates and welcomes families and friends. Highlights include:

  • The 114th Spring Commencement (Saturday evening). All graduates and families and friends of degree candidates are invited to the University-wide Commencement program, the most important event of the University's year. This year UT will significantly increase seating to accommodate expected visitors. The tradition-rich ceremony set among UT's historic buildings showcases the achievements of UT's students, particularly its undergraduates. Saturday's celebration includes a grand procession of degree candidates and faculty, the traditional lighting of the Tower, the singing of the alma mater, and the brilliant flare of fireworks. The sights and sounds will be unforgettable, with colorful banners, students and faculty in academic regalia, a joyous Commencement chorus joining with instrumental ensembles, and the remarks of the distinguished speaker Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children's Defense Fund.

  • Graduate School convocations (Saturday morning). Candidates for graduate degrees are invited to University-wide convocations honoring their achievements. Two seperate Convocations will recognize master's and doctoral candidates separately, with hooding and individual recognition of each student.

  • Specific college and school graduation programs (Saturday and Sunday). UT's fourteen academic colleges and schools conduct individual convocations honoring their graduating students. Speakers and traditions unique to each area are part of these programs, and degree candidates are recognized individually.

  • The Ex-Students' Association Great TEXAS EX-it open house (throughout Saturday). Graduates and their families are invited to celebrate and remember the best of Texas at the Great TEXAS EX-it open house and champagne toast at the Alumni Center, featuring Bevo and other UT traditions. The get-together is a great chance to meet with friends, pick up a "Texas Ex" window decal, and join The Ex-Students' Association.
