Academic Dress
Academic regalia for degree candidates is traditional for the
evening Commencement on May 23 and for school and college ceremonies
on May 23 and 24. Graduating students should check with their
particular college or school for instructions. Law students may wear
the traditional sunflower ceremony attire to the evening Commencement
ceremony. Academic dress may be ordered from the University-area
businesses noted above.
University Housing
Degree candidates living in University housing may request to
remain through the night of Saturday, May 23. Residence halls will
close on Sunday, May 24, at 9 A.M.
Area Accommodations
Guests requesting information on hotel and motel availability
should contact the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau at
512-478-0098 or 1-800-888-8AUS.
Tickets for Events
The Graduate School of Business and the College of Pharmacy host
events for which tickets are required. Please contact those offices
directly for information. All other events-including the
University-wide 115th Spring Commencement, the Great Texas Ex-it, the
University-wide Graduate School convocations, and most academic
college and school convocations-are free and offer open seating.
Services for Students and Visitors with Disabilities
People with disabilities are asked to contact Services for
Students with Disabilities (SSD) in the Office of the Dean of
Students (telephone 512-471-6259, TDD 512-471-4641) before their
arrival for Commencement weekend activities. Members of that office
will be pleased to provide accessibility maps, information on seating
at the University-wide 115th Spring Commencement, and other services.
Please contact colleges and schools directly for information on
seating for individual convocations and special events. The SSD
office will be open until 5 P.M. Friday, May 22, but will be closed
Saturday and Sunday. Guests with disabilities may call the UT Police
Department at 512-471-4441 for information when the Office of the
Dean of Students is closed.
Parking
The University will provide ample free parking in designated
sites during Commencement weekend. The UT parking garages at 24th and
San Jacinto and at MLK and Speedway (just south of the Jester Center)
are pay lots on Friday, May 22. On Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May
24, these garages will be open and free to the public. In addition,
commercial parking lots are located off campus.

General Information
For more information on Commencement 1998 activities, please
telephone The University's Visitor Center at 512-471-6498. The
University's Visitor Center at Sid Richardson Hall Unit 3, adjacent
to the LBJ Library and Museum, will be open on Friday, 8 A.M.-4:30
P.M.; and Saturday, 8:30 A.M.-4:30 P.M. Several Commencement 1998
information centers will be located around campus on Saturday, which
will offer maps, listings for campus museum and gallery attractions,
and details on food and beverage service, campus stores, remote
telecasts for the Saturday evening Commencement, and other
information.
