The Commons Learning Center's
two buildings are part of a
Tobacco-free Campus
The Commons Learning Center’s two buildings are located a mile apart across MoPac Expressway (Loop 1) in north Austin. Both locations offer excellent meeting facilities and full catering service.
- The Commons Building is located inside the J.J. Pickle Research Campus, under the white UT water tower, at 10100 Burnet Road in building #137.
- The West Pickle Research Building (WPR; formerly called the MCC Building) is located on the southwest corner of Braker Lane and MoPac at 3925 West Braker Lane.
A Business Service Center is located in the Commons building offering complimentary use of computer workstations with high-speed internet and Microsoft Office. Fax/copy, ground transportation and phone service is also available. Wireless internet access is offered in both buildings.

The J. Neils Thompson Commons Building
The Commons Building is named after J. Neils Thompson, whose visionary action led to the creation of the Balcones Research Campus. In 1994, the campus was renamed the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in honor of Congressman J.J. “Jake” Pickle, for his longtime support of the university and scientific research.
Offering over 23,000 square feet of meeting space, the Commons Building features a Business Center, two large theatre-style auditoriums and eight meeting rooms. Also available is a private dining room and a 9,000 square foot atrium for large catered events, forums and exhibits.
Also tucked inside the Commons Building is the famous Commons Café with delicious food, a cheerful staff and a vibrant atmosphere. Offering a light breakfast menu and a broad selection of lunch options, the café is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

The West Pickle Research (WPR) Building
The WPR Building encompasses over 12,000 square feet of meeting space including an auditorium with seating for 170.
WPR also offers three additional meeting or breakout rooms, a covered patio, a Business Center, and two large atrium areas for formal dinners, receptions, casual lunches or exhibits.
