Welcome to the Faculty Computer Committee Web Page. Since 1958, the FCC at the University of Texas at Austin has recommended to the President and the Provost long-range plans for academic computing in (1) instruction, (2) research, and (3) service.

- II. Campus-wide Planning for Information Technology
- In 1989 the Committee developed the first campus-wide strategic
plan for Academic Computing.
This plan, which became known as the Vision Plan proposed major
changes in academic computing.By 1995 not only were these changes
well underway, but the field of academic computing had changed
rapidly. In Spring 1995 an FCC subcommittee met to consider revision
of the original Vision Plan. This resulted in a New Vision Plan
entitled Toward the Virtual University
to guide the University of Texas at Austin into the next century.
III. College and School Plans for Information Technology
- Schools, colleges, the Computation Center, and the General
Libraries are also responsible for preparing annual strategic
plans for information technology. These are prepared according
to guidelines
developed by the FCC and submitted for review in the fall semester.
The plans are among the best sources of insight into how the University
is coming to terms with the information revolution in higher education.
Each plan speaks to the dramatic changes now underway and gives
voice to innovative solutions to new and pressing demands. Comparison
of these plans provides a sense of the direction in which the
University is moving and an indication of the types of support
needed to meet the challenges ahead.
