Dear Selection Committee:

The purpose of this letter is to serve as a recommendation to Intel Corporation for the proposal from The University of Texas at Austin. IBM understands that the Colleges of Business, Communications, Computer Science, Engineering and the Texas Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics are collaborating in preparation for an institutional response to requirements contained in the Intel Corporation - Request for Proposal dated March 17, 1997. We have reviewed copies of Intel's RFP.

We believe that The University of Texas at Austin is well positioned to conduct collaborative research and joint teaching programs in a wide spectrum of engineering, scientific, distributed multimedia, digital communications and business applications. We also want to note that the University has a sign)ficant commitment to the use of Window NT in distributed client/server topologies and systems applications. Both this collaborative approach and commitment to industry-standard information technologies make The University of Texas an attractive industry/educational alliance partner.

We are confident that The University can articulate and successfully manage a highly visible and technically compelling research program supported by cross-college collaborative projects.

IBM is please to provide this letter of support and looks forward to Intel Corporation's review and support of The University of Texas Proposal.

Sincerely,
