5.0 SUMMARY

The University of Texas at Austin plans to increase its investment in digital science and information technologies, to forge new connections across academic units, and to refine and expand the vision of its mission to actively participate in an increasingly globalized academic and business community.

In a highly diverse and increasingly distributed community, multiple projects must be conducted, funded and nurtured simultaneously to produce both the knowledge and momentum necessary to develop new technologies and apply them in ways that can transform the entire enterprise. This proposal provides the necessary resources and framework that focuses these projects on three key components of a distributed computing environment.

In issuing a "Request for Proposal" for this grant program, Intel clearly demonstrates its understanding of the importance of collaborations among public and private partners in the development, application and understanding of digital technology to demanding and strategically significant problems. The University of Texas at Austin is honored to have been selected to submit this proposal to Intel and respectfully requests Intel as a partner in support of this research program.

If there is interest, we would be pleased to host a site visit by representatives of Intel to the campus. Please contact Dr. Thomas F. Edgar (512/475-9201) or edgar@che.utexas.edu for the necessary arrangements.
