Executive Vice President
Worldwide Program Planning and Acquistions

Dear Selection Committee:
The purpose of this letter is to serve as a recommendation to Intel Corporation for this proposal from The University of Texas at Austin. I understand that the College of Communication is collaborating with the Colleges of Fine Arts, Engineering and Natural Science, and the Texas Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics, in preparation for an institutional response to requirements contained in the Intel Corporation -Request for Proposal dated March 17, 1997.
I believe that The University of Texas at Austin is well positioned to conduct significant collaborative research and joint teaching programs in distributed multimedia and digital communications and technologies. In particular, the College of Communication, which is ranked as one of the top 10 programs in the country by US News and Report, has an outstanding, nationally-recognized faculty and a consistently strong student population. Of the College's eleven academic programs, including Journalism, Radio-TV-Film, Speech Communication and Advertising, five were in the top three in the country and eight in the top five. Theirs is the most comprehensive and highest-rated College of Communication in the country.
I am confident that The University can articulate and successfully manage a highly visible and technically compelling research program supported by cross-collaborative projects in the increasingly important area of multimedia as it applies to entertainment, news, and advertising. I am pleased to provide this letter of support and look forward to Intel Corporation's support of this proposal.
Sincerely,
Original signed by Mr. Levi
