Stephen J. Wright is the Director of Distance Education Programs, responsible for the administration of Penn State's Distance Education program. Steve has been a practitioner in the filed of collegiate distance education since 1984 and has been at Penn State in a variety of academic and administrative positions since 1972.
Dr. Wright earned both his masters and doctoral degrees
in the department of history at Penn State where he holds the
rank of affiliate assistant professor of history. Steve is a specialist
in Latin American history and politics with his research interests
in modern Cuban history. He also has a part-time teaching appointment
in the history department at Bucknell University in Lewisburg,
Pennsylvania. He is a member of the editorial board of the American
Journal of Distance Education and is co-editor with Barbara
Watkins of an anthology entitled: The Foundations of American
Distance Education: 100 Years of Collegiate Correspondence Study.
Steve is a past chair of the Division of Independent Study of
the University Continuing Education Association (UCEA) and a former
member of the Board of Directors of the American Association of
Collegiate Independent Study (AACIS). Dr. Wright is a member of
the Penn State team consisting of faculty, administrators and
technical specialists who are creating the Penn State World Campus.
