Ikechukwu Temitope C. Ogu has a degree in Computer Engineering at Bethesda Computer Institute. He also trained as Aso Oke weaver at Theomos Odunlekan Weaving Institute, Ibadan, and on Computer Technics at Amlis Computers under the National Open Apprenticeship Scheme of National Directorate of Employment (N.D.E). Mr. Ogu is from Aba-Ngwa in Abia State.

Yoruba History – Cultural and Traditional Attire

The Yoruba’s are mainly found in the southwest of Nigeria in the west African sub-region. Their original home is not easily determined since there were no written evidences to that in the past. Information to this fact were oral and could easily be distorted. Yoruba tradition and culture. It is rich and unique. It encompasses all sphere of life i.e. socially, religiously and politically. The social culture portrays the Yoruba’s as gregarious in nature hence, the “Alajobi” (family or lineage bond).Their way of greetings. Females kneel down Males prostrates religion. They belief in a Supreme Being the “OLODUMARE” who is the judge of all and who can be reached through the help of other smaller gods. Political culture. It is a system of government where a man known as the “OBA” King is enthroned and recognized as second in command to the gods, hence, he is called “Alase Ekeji Orisa” and he is greeted as “kabi Yesi” or “Ka Bi Yin Kosi” meaning No one dare question your authority. The “Igbimo” or council of chiefs help in ruling. Yoruba and fashion. Before the coming of the white men, the Yoruba people have their own traditional and cultural attires. These are locally made and peculiar to the Yoruba’s. They are the “Aso Oke” and “Adire”, “Aso Oke” is produced by hand weaving. Female attire Buba and Iro, Gele, Ipele, Iborun and Tobi. Male attire. Buba and Sooro, Agbada, Fila, Kenbe and Dansiki.
