The University of Texas at Austin Tower,
by Marsha Miller

Welcome to The University of Texas at Austin!

One of the nation’s premier public research universities that offers the full spectrum of academic programs. Relatively low-cost tuition. Sunny, blue skies in an eclectic city that is recognized as one of America’s creative centers. Museums and libraries that house holdings unmatched on almost any campus in the country. Athletic teams that annually compete for national championships in almost every sport. What’s not to like about The University of Texas at Austin?

They say everything’s big in Texas, and the university is no different. With a student body of almost 50,000, the university is one of the largest in America. It even contains a dormitory so large it has its own zip code.

The university’s sprawling, urban campus holds treasures not found on a typical university campus. In the Harry Ransom Research Center, recently profiled in New Yorker magazine, students and visitors can examine Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein’s Watergate papers, gaze at a rare Gutenberg Bible or pore through the archives of Norman Mailer and James Joyce. A few blocks away they can tour the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum or browse through the Center for American History, which includes the most comprehensive collection of materials on Texas history as well as archives from CBS newsmen Walter Cronkite and Andy Rooney and news organizations such as the New York Times and Newsweek. A short distance away is the recently completed Blanton Museum of Art, with its stunning collection of works ranging from Renaissance and Baroque Europe to 20th century America and Latin America.
