Fall 2002 Group Project

The group project is an important part of this class, and it counts for 35% of your grade. The project is due on Thursday, December 5, the last day of class. Each group will give a brief (8 - 10) minute presentation about their project on that day.

The group project is:

Develop a UT Info site for the next release of the Bevoware CD. Bevoware is a CD of software available to UT students, faculty, and staff. In addition to the software on the CD there is a small Web site called UT Info. The primary audience for this site is new students, faculty and staff (don't forget the facutly and staff). The site is intended to provide orientation information and links and tips about the most important things for new members of our community to know. Don't be afraid to provide "inside knowledge". Your content can be guided by the following question: What do I wish someone would have told me when I was a new student here?

Your site must include at least 10 images from around campus and you must have at least 20 pages of original content. A link farm, a page that only contains links to other places, is not considered original content. But your site will probably have pages that are collections of links. That's OK; we just want to make sure you do some writing and research as well.

This project will involve research, writing, picture taking, Web site design, HTML coding and more.

The audience for these sites are new students, faculty, and staff. The client is Mairi Reyer of the Bevoware team. Her e-mail address is m.reyer@its.utexas.edu.

Each group must submit a weekly progress report outlining what they have done on the project. These weekly progress reports should be sent to dcook@mail.utexas.edu. The progress reports count toward your overall grade on the group project. Each group will also need to schedule a meeting with Dr. Wilcox to discuss your progress on the project.

Finally, each group member will submit a peer review of the individuals in the group following the completion of the assignment. These peer reviews will be used in assigning individual grades for the project. For example, if one person does not contribute to the group, the peer reviews will reflect that and their grade will be reduced accordingly. Everyone must contribute to this project.
