Lecture 11 List

Note: This lidded pyxis, or box, was found in an Athenian woman's tomb, and scholars believe that the horses denote the woman's family-status as rather wealthy - one of the hippeis ("horsey-set"), or the class of those having enough money to own and upkeep horses...Notice the increased use of geometric designs - swastikas, checkers, spirals, stars, and upright swiggles - all making this a later vessel than the oinochoe in the last slide.
