By default, Visio routes all relationships around the tables in a series of right angle turns.

If you prefer to have your relationships appear as straight lines between the tables, then

1. Open your ER diagram.
2. Select Page Setup from the File drop-down menu.
3. Select the Straight or Center-to-Center routing style from the Layout and Routing set of properties. While you're at it, you might want to select the Curved appearance and de-select the Move Other Shapes Away on Drop property.
4. Click the OK button.
