Printing Without Visio

Visio's default file type is the VSD file format (i.e., ViSio Drawing). You cannot open/edit/print a VSD file on a computer that does not have Visio.

Fortunately, Visio allows you to save a drawing in a host of other file formats (image, web, postscript, etc). You can save a drawing as an image file by:

  1. Click File on toolbar
  2. Select Save As option
  3. Navigate to the directory where you want to save your file
  4. Enter a file name
  5. Select a file type (JPG or GIF)
  6. Click the Save button

This image file can now be printed from a computer that does not have Visio. Don't forget to also save your drawing as a VSD file so you can edit it at a later date on a lab computer.
